Secondary STORMWATER Treatment

HumeCeptor® Hydrodynamic Separator

An underground precast concrete treatment system that uses hydrodynamic and gravitational separation to remove hydrocarbons and suspended solids from stormwater runoff, and contain spills before they reach downstream waterways.

How it works

HumeCeptor® uses hydrodynamic and gravitational separation to remove entrained hydrocarbons and total suspended solids of 10 microns and above. It is designed to contain spills and reduce non-point source pollution entering downstream waterways.

Originally developed for constrained commercial and industrial sites, the system has been expanded to service large catchments, inundated drainage systems and high-volume emergency spill events.

Where it is used

  • Hardstands and wash bays
  • Car parks
  • Shopping centres
  • Industrial facilities
  • Petrol stations
  • Airports
  • Major roads

Key features

  • Sized to achieve required water quality outcomes on an annual basis
  • Proven resistance to sediment scour during high-flow events
  • Captures particulate-bound nutrients with sediment
  • Allows for emergency spill storage, tidal inundation and complex pipe configurations
  • Fully trafficable for urban and infrastructure applications

82% of site water now comes from captured stormwater

Valoriza, Dandenong VIC

A HumeCeptor® separator removes sediment and hydrocarbons before runoff is stored in 340,000 litres of tanks and reused in composting. The site has kept a negative water balance every week for nearly two years, with zero leachate sent offsite.

Common questions

What does HumeCeptor® remove from stormwater?

Entrained hydrocarbons and total suspended solids of 10 microns and above, along with particulate-bound nutrients captured with the sediment.

Where is HumeCeptor® typically installed?

Hardstands and wash bays, car parks, shopping centres, industrial facilities, petrol stations, airports and major road infrastructure.

How has its performance been verified?

HumeCeptor® has been independently verified under NJCAT/TARP (USA) and ETV Canada protocols.

Can it handle spills and high flows?

Yes. It allows for emergency spill storage and has proven resistance to sediment scour during high-flow events.
