Traffic & Utility Tunnels
Humes offers a range of cost-effective solutions for micro-tunnelling, deep tunnel construction and long tunnel applications, including segmental linings, box culverts and jacking pipes.
Segmental Tunnel Linings
Segmental linings are commonly used for utility tunnels, rail transport tunnels, water pipelines and desalination structures. Humes’ trapezoidal segments are engineered to provide a smooth bore, single-pass permanent finish, capable of withstanding the demands of modern tunnel boring machines and challenging ground conditions.
Segmental linings are manufactured in internal diameters from 2m to 3.84m, with other sizes available on request. The system supports curved and straight alignments through the use of three segment types, with ring orientation adjusted to accommodate changes in direction. Factory-controlled moulds ensure dimensional accuracy, while non-ferrous self-locking connectors minimise internal bolt recesses and eliminate cruciform joints. Segments are designed for machine handling with rotating arm erectors and incorporate a fast coarse-thread plastic socket at the centroid for lifting and grouting.
Humes supports micro-tunnelling and deep tunnel construction with efficient installation and long-term structural performance.

Box Culverts
Humes’ range of box culverts, with spans from 300mm to 6,600mm, provides an effective solution for traffic and utility tunnel applications where structural simplicity and rapid installation are required.
Steel Reinforced Concrete Pipes – Jacking
Humes offers a comprehensive range of steel reinforced concrete jacking pipes for trenchless installation. Standard jacking pipes are available from DN300 to DN3600 in Class 4, with a range of joint options to suit varying performance requirements.
Butt Joint Jacking Pipes provide a cost-effective solution for short drives where flexibility or watertight joints are not critical. In-Wall Joint Jacking Pipes deliver flexible watertight performance for typical short-length installations. S Series Jacking Pipes and J Series Jacking Pipes offer high axial load transfer capacity with flexible watertight joints, including interjack configurations where required.
