Escape Tunnels & Emergency Shafts

Humes provides precast concrete solutions for escape tunnels and emergency access shafts designed to ensure safe egress and withstand heavy loading conditions in mining and infrastructure environments.

Precast Arches

Custom-designed precast arches provide a high-performance and cost-effective solution for escape tunnels, capable of meeting complex heavy loading criteria and internal clearance requirements.

Box Culverts

Extra-large span box culverts, up to 6m in span and 6m in height, are used for escape tunnels and conveyor applications. Prestressed and post-tensioned options are available to increase structural capacity, with designs customised to suit site conditions.

Steel Reinforced Concrete Pipes

Large diameter reinforced concrete pipes from DN2500 to DN3500 provide an alternative solution for escape tunnels where substantial loading is imposed.

Segmental Shafts

Segmental shafts remain a viable alternative to traditional shaft construction methods for permanent and temporary escape shafts. Available in internal diameters from 4.5m to 15m, with larger sizes on request, shafts can be installed using either the caisson or underpin method depending on ground conditions.
