Humes provides engineered precast systems for communications and energy infrastructure, supporting cable installation, access and protection across urban, transport and rail environments. Developed in collaboration with authorities including Telstra, Energex and RailCorp, these systems are designed to perform reliably in expansive and reactive soils while simplifying installation and long-term maintenance.

Cable Jointing Access Chambers

Cable jointing access chambers are worker-entry precast units designed to allow safe cable installation and ongoing maintenance. Three standard models are available, with lengths ranging from 1,610mm to 4,365mm, widths from 1,260mm to 1,560mm, and heights from 1,058mm to 1,864mm. These chambers provide structural stability and safe access in demanding below-ground environments.

Cable Jointing Access Chambers

Cable jointing access chambers are worker-entry precast units designed to allow safe cable installation and ongoing maintenance. Three standard models are available, with lengths ranging from 1,610mm to 4,365mm, widths from 1,260mm to 1,560mm, and heights from 1,058mm to 1,864mm. These chambers provide structural stability and safe access in demanding below-ground environments.

Cable Jointing Pits (J8 & J9)

Cable jointing pits are designed for external jointing where worker entry is not required. The J8 model measures 1,429mm long, 619mm wide and 948mm high, while the larger J9 model measures 2,250mm long, 710mm wide and 975mm high. These units provide an efficient and durable solution for cable networks within utility corridors and energy infrastructure.

Costello Pits

Costello pits are circular precast shafts incorporating a precast base and knockouts for cable entry and jointing. Shaft and base sections can be manufactured with pre-formed blockouts to improve installation efficiency and reduce on-site modification. Available in DN1050, DN1200 and DN1500 diameters, Costello pits are supplied in various heights with risers to suit local authority requirements. The system is approved by RailCorp (NSW) for rail applications.

Light Pole Bases

Humes precast light pole bases provide a fast and structurally reliable alternative to cast-in-situ footings for both main roads and residential applications. Developed in collaboration with Energex (QLD), the bases are designed to resist design loads while reducing installation time, labour costs and site cleanup.

Square bases measuring 350mm by 350mm are available in standard lengths including 975mm and 2,150mm, with other configurations available to suit project requirements. The depth of the base can be modified to suit varying pole sizes and mounting heights. Columns connect via a bolted plate fixed to cast-in ferrules, and conduits can be cast into the base to provide a clear cable pathway. Foot anchors are incorporated to facilitate safe handling and installation.

Pad-Mounted Uniculvert® Modules

Pad-mounted Uniculvert® modules are precast transformer support units designed in collaboration with Energex (QLD) to house electrical cables and provide a solid mounting platform for transformer boxes. The module incorporates removable side panels to allow cable installation during setup.

The standard module measures 1,400mm long, 1,400mm wide and 1,080mm high. An optional base pad measuring 2,000mm by 1,700mm can be supplied where additional structural support is required.

Oil Separators

Humes oil separation tanks are designed to capture oil released during transformer or substation failure, preventing environmental contamination. Installed in bunded areas, the tanks collect and contain waste material until removal by a licensed waste transporter. Typical diameters include DN1950 and DN2400, with lengths varying according to required oil holding capacity.
