Stormwater Harvesting
Smarter Water Use Starts Below Ground
Changing climate patterns and growing urban populations are placing increasing pressure on potable water supplies across Australia. As rainfall becomes less predictable and water security tightens, harvesting and reusing stormwater is becoming a practical, cost-effective solution for commercial, industrial and large-scale residential developments.
Humes delivers engineered stormwater harvesting systems designed to capture, treat, store and reuse rainwater — helping reduce mains water reliance while meeting performance, durability and budget requirements.
RainVault® System
Complete underground rainwater harvesting for larger-scale projects
RainVault® is a fully integrated system designed to capture, treat, store and supply harvested rainwater for non-potable applications such as irrigation, toilet flushing and washdown.
Manufactured predominantly from precast concrete, RainVault® stores water underground — preserving valuable above-ground space while providing a fully trafficable solution. Each system is tailored to suit project-specific storage and supply requirements, incorporating treatment devices, storage components and a customised pumping system.
A 1ML RainVault® system is used to irrigate one hectare of green space at Riverstone Crossing residential community in South East Queensland. Stormwater is diverted from the main drainage system through filters and then stored in the RainVault® system.
RainVault® mini system installation.
Designed for capacities from 5,000L and above, RainVault® delivers:
- Modular, scalable storage
- Durable precast construction
- Efficient installation
- Long-term reliability with minimal maintenance
RainVault® Mini System
Compact harvesting for constrained sites
RainVault® Mini is a vertically installed, below-ground harvesting solution suited to smaller storage requirements from 3,000L to 7,000L.
With only a discreet bolt-down access lid visible at surface level, the system maintains site usability while delivering robust underground storage. Each unit includes an integrated submersible Grundfos pump, customised to suit the supply demands of the project.
Key features include:
- Fully trafficable design
- Automated backwashing for reduced maintenance
- Secure, vandal-resistant configuration
- Child-safe bolt-down access
- Proven long service life (minimum 100 years in most ground conditions)
RainVault® Mini complies with relevant Australian Standards, including AS3600, WSA128 and HB230.
ReserVault® System
Efficient storage where treatment isn’t required
ReserVault® provides a practical underground storage solution where high water quality treatment or integrated pumping is not required — such as irrigation or detention reuse applications.
Using the same robust precast storage components as RainVault®, the ReserVault® system offers a streamlined, cost-effective alternative while maintaining durability and structural performance.
Designed for Long-Term Water Security
All Humes stormwater harvesting systems are engineered for durability, structural integrity and long service life. By combining precast precision with integrated treatment and pumping options, these systems provide a resilient approach to water reuse in an increasingly resource-constrained environment.
Precast Concrete Cubes
Modular underground storage with integrated treatment
Precast concrete cubes provide a safe and secure underground water source for non-potable applications such as irrigation, car washing, laundry and hot water systems.
Available in 3,000L and 5,000L modules, cubes can be linked together to achieve larger storage capacities. The system is structurally designed for imposed loads, allowing full use of the surface area above.
Each cube incorporates the same proven treatment devices, water quality controls, storage components and pumping systems used in the RainVault® system — delivering a compact, modular alternative for projects requiring flexibility and staged expansion.
Segmental shafts provide a practical solution for water storage where surface area is constrained but depth is available.
Segmental Shafts
Deep storage where footprint is limited
Segmental shafts provide a practical solution for water storage where surface area is constrained but depth is available.
Well suited to both temporary and permanent applications, segmental shafts can be sunk efficiently in difficult ground conditions, enabling safe and economical construction. Their vertical configuration makes them ideal for urban environments and tight infrastructure corridors.
Standard diameters range from 4.5m to 15m, with larger sizes available on request. The system’s versatility and constructability make it an effective option for deep storage and water management applications.
