Steel Reinforced Concrete Pipes (SRCP)

Humes is Australia’s leading manufacturer of Steel Reinforced Concrete Pipes (SRCP) and associated precast products.

Available in a wide range of diameters, lengths and strength classes, Humes concrete pipes have a proven track record and can be custom-designed for structural applications including bridge crossings, culverts, underpasses, floodways and platform-related infrastructure, as well as drainage and water management associated with bridge works.

Manufacturing & Performance

Humes SRCP are manufactured using coarse and fine aggregates, cement and hard-drawn deformed steel reinforcement. Every pipe is produced under factory-controlled conditions and tested for quality in accordance with AS/NZS 4058 – Precast Concrete Pipes (Pressure and Non-Pressure). Pipes can also be custom-manufactured and tested to meet specific project, loading and durability requirements relevant to bridge and platform applications.

Steel Reinforced Concrete Pipes

Concrete’s high abrasion resistance and low permeability make SRCP well suited to structural crossings and bridge-related hydraulic structures, where resistance to scour, debris loading and high flow conditions is critical. Natural material characteristics further enhance performance, including increased strength in the presence of moisture and autogenous crack healing.

Joint Types

Humes concrete pipes are manufactured with two primary joint types to suit structural and hydraulic requirements:

Flush Joint (FJ) – An interlocking joint that allows a small degree of flexibility in alignment, commonly used where structural continuity and installation tolerance are required.

Rubber Ring Joint (RRJ) – A belled-socket or in-wall joint (depending on diameter and application) designed to accommodate alignment changes and settlement while maintaining a watertight seal, particularly suited to bridge approaches and waterway crossings.

Sizes & Lengths

The standard range covers DN300 to DN2100 (DN = nominal diameter). Diameters outside the standard range, up to DN3600, are also available on request to suit larger bridge and culvert structures. Humes concrete pipes are typically manufactured in nominal 2.44m lengths to optimise transport and handling, with alternative lengths available where required to suit structural layout or installation methodology.

Comprehensive tables detailing size classes (DN), strength classes and availability are provided in the Concrete Pipe Reference Manual.
