Box Culverts
Box culverts are an ideal solution for instant bridging.
Humes precast concrete box culverts suit difficult site conditions, as installation requires minimal excavation and backfill, and they are designed to tolerate heavy wheel loads even with no or minimal overfill in place.
Humes manufactures a full range of box culverts from 300mm to 6600mm span in configurations to Australian Standards AS1597 (Parts 1 and 2). Box culverts are generally available in standard lengths of 1.2m and 2.4m, with custom designs such as splayed units also available. Penetrations, post-tensioning ducts, openings and cast-in items such as ferrules can be easily accommodated within the culvert design.
Box culverts can be supplied as an inverted U on a concrete base foundation (crown type) or as a U-shaped trough with a lid (invert type), with Humes designing and supplying precast bases and lids to suit individual applications.
Multiple cell box culvert installation with Linkslab® units.
Installing two or more box culverts together forms a multiple-cell configuration, and for installations of three cells or more, a Linkslab® unit can be placed between culverts as a cost-effective solution that reduces the number of supports and increases waterway width. Linkslab® units typically match the span of the supporting box culverts but can be designed with a greater width where required, and in shallow fill conditions can be detailed to sit flush with the crown units.
