Primary Treatment
HumeGard® Gross Pollutant Trap (GPT)
The HumeGard® GPT is a high-performance primary stormwater treatment system designed to remove gross pollutants and coarse sediments ≥150 microns from stormwater runoff. It is ideally suited to residential and commercial developments where litter and sediment are the dominant pollutants, including retrofit sites and low-grade drainage systems where minimal head loss is critical.
Key Features
- Low headloss design with a k-factor of 0.2
- Removes 100% of gross pollutants (>2 mm) prior to bypass
- Achieves ≥41% annual Total Suspended Solids (TSS) removal
- Removes particulate-bound nutrients
- Independently proven treatment technology
- Low operational velocities (0.2 m/s) to minimise scour
- 50-year design life, compliant with AS 5100 and AS 3600
- Stainless steel internal components for durability
- Developed and tested by Swinburne University
- Fully trafficable for urban environments
How It Works
The HumeGard® GPT uses a combination of physical filtration and floatation/sedimentation to separate litter and coarse sediment from stormwater. Treatable flows are diverted via a floating boom into the treatment chamber, while an upper bypass allows excess flows to pass without disturbing captured pollutants. This design prevents re-suspension during peak or subsequent storm events.
Proven Performance
One of the most widely adopted stormwater treatment systems in Australia, the HumeGard® GPT has demonstrated reliable performance across a broad range of applications. Multiple models are available to suit normal and supercritical flow conditions.
