Floodgates

The Hume-King floodgate (also known as a reflux valve or tidal flap) is an end-of-line, non-return valve designed to protect pipelines from tidal inundation, debris, animals, vermin and backflow. The gate seals against the vertical end of the pipeline, with a mounting pin located behind the sealing surface to create a moment arm that holds the gate closed.

Hume-King floodgates support long-term pipeline performance through:

  • High chemical resistance to organic solvents, acids, alkalis and salt water, delivering a durable, non-corrosive solution
  • Resistance to sunlight, preventing warping in service
  • Manufacture from low-salvage-value materials, reducing the risk of theft and vandalism

Floodgates are moulded from fibreglass-reinforced polyester and fitted with high-tensile 316 stainless steel hinges and replaceable neoprene sealing rings. Units are available to suit standard Humes pipe diameters, with mounting-ring styles for smaller pipes and bolt-on configurations for DN1050 to DN1800. Custom floodgates can also be designed and manufactured for non-standard applications.
