Holcim Australia will upgrade its Humes pipe and precast manufacturing facility in Rockhampton.
The upgrade is in response to Central Queensland (CQ) market demand and a commitment to the Australian Industry Participation (AIP) Plan, a concept under the Australian Industry Participation National Framework principles.
The upgrade will also enhance safety standards, remove lifting capacity constraints and reduce external truck movements.
The Rockhampton Regional Development Corporation has confirmed that the CQ market will be at the heart of one of Australia’s largest resources-driven economic expansions. With projects totalling over $100 billion, demand for precast concrete products is due to increase substantially.
Humes has been manufacturing precast concrete products in the CQ market for over 50 years. The Rockhampton manufacturing facility produces a full range of pipes, small products and precast/prestressed products for roads, mining applications, rail and port infrastructure.
Rockhampton is the ideal location within the CQ region, giving the Humes manufacturing facility access to coal fields and major rail and port infrastructure.
The upgrade will include;
- A 50 m x 25 m undercover manufacturing shed
- Two 50 tonne overhead gantry cranes with 90m travel distance and 25m span
- A suspended “flying bucket” concrete delivery system fully integrated into the new concrete batching plant
- A new concrete batch plant capable of producing leading edge self-compacting concrete
